Dr Colin Mitchell MBChB, MSc, MRCP

Dr Colin Mitchell is consultant physician trained in general adult medicine and geriatric medicine. Colin specialises in medical care of older adults, particularly those with falls and mobility problems. He trained at Edinburgh Medical School, qualified in 2002, and was appointed to his current consultant post at St. Mary's Hospital, Paddington in 2011. In addition to clinical qualifications he holds a Masters degree in Geriatric Medicine & Gerontology, including training in ethics & law relating to older people.
Dr Mitchell was appointed as Training Program Director for General (Internal) Medicine in North West London in 2013, and sits on the national Specialist Advisory Committee for higher general medical training at the Royal College of Physicians. He is an honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College School of Medicine and an author for two international medical reference books: the Oxford Handbook of Acute Medicine (2015, in press) and Macleod's Clinical Diagnosis (2011). He also has an interest in IT, as divisional IT lead at Imperial College NHS Trust, and generally in developing technology to provide safety, monitoring and care for seniors.
With a sound understanding of the concepts of frailty, medical complexity, capacity, discharge risk assessment and prognostication in complex older patients, Dr Mitchell is in a strong position to comment on causality and the effects of individual events and insults on older patients with multiple comorbidities.
