Consultant Physician and Rheumatologist, Epsom Hospital, Surrey
Dr Darlington is a Consultant Physician and Rheumatologist with specialist accreditation in General Medicine and Rheumatology and an Honorary Consultant Physician at Epsom General Hospital, Surrey.
She graduated from Charing Cross Hospital Medical School, London University and received her Doctorate on lipid and purine metabolism in gout. She has been awarded the Hospital’s Trustees’ Research Fellowship, the Michael Mason Medal for her work on ultrasound in Rheumatology and a Private Patients’ Plan Research Fellowship at Jesus College, Cambridge.
Dr Darlington is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Honorary Senior Research Fellow at the University of Glasgow. She is the Clinical Lead for a research collaboration with Professor Trevor W. Stone at the University of Glasgow. This programme has involved several post-doctoral scientists and enables the University department to benefit from a wealth of clinical material and expertise, while the clinical aspects of research have benefitted from the internationally recognised levels of expertise of scientific colleagues. This programme includes a wide range of scientific and clinical research studies in General Medicine, Rheumatology, Neuroscience and Cancer.
She has published over 60 research papers and has published 3 books including “Gout and Arthritis” (1996), Pills, Potions and Poisons (Oxford University Press, 2000, available online) and most recently “Gout: answers at your fingertips (Class Health, 2013) which was shortlisted in the BMA Medical Book awards, 2014."
