Dr Ronak Rajani MD, MRCP, FSCCT, FESC, BM

Consultant Cardiologist, Guys and St Thomas Hospital London

Dr Rajani is a consultant cardiologist in heart failure, inherited cardiac conditions and cardiac imaging at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and an honorary senior lecturer at King's College London.

He has a specialist interest in inherited heart muscle disease (cardiomyopathy)/heart failure as well as advanced cardiac imaging.

He is currently the cardiology lead for cardiac computed tomography, research and development (team lead) and digital web publishing.

Dr Rajani was the first and only recipient of the British Cardiovascular Society/American College of Cardiology Fellowship in Advanced Cardiac Imaging and received his training in cardiac MRI and nuclear cardiology at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London and training in cardiac CT and PET imaging at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in Los Angeles.

He has accredited training in cardiac CT (Level III), nuclear cardiology (Level II), cardiac MRI (Level II) and is trained in all aspects of advanced echocardiography (stress echo and transoesophageal echo).

He completed his echocardiography based MD thesis in 2006 and has published >120 manuscripts in the field of cardiac imaging. He maintains an active interest in research, and is particularly interested in the modern applications of cardiac CT in predicting cardiac risk and for cardiac structural and electrophysiology interventions.

As well as lecturing nationally on aspects of cardiac imaging, Dr Rajani is currently on the editorial board of:

  • Frontiers in Cardiac Physiology

  • International Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery

  • Case Reports in Emergency Medicine

  • Clinical Radiology (associate editor).

He's also on the Communications Committee for the British Heart Valve Society and the British Society of Echocardiography and sits on the International Sub-committee and Abstract Grading Committee of the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography.

He is one of only a few individuals in the United Kingdom to be designated a Fellow of the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography and is a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians based upon scientific merit.

Dr Rajani is particularly interested in teaching and is the course director of the acute medicine echocardiography course at Guy's and St Thomas' and Founded the London International CT Academy of which is is the Course Director.
