Mr Edward J Shaxted DM FRCOG
Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Northampton General Hospital
Mr Shaxted has been a consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Northampton General Hospital since 1984 and was the clinical director of that unit from 2005 to 2009. He then became the lead for Research and Developement before retirement in 2010. In retirement Mr Shaxted now works part time for the NHS. His early career was in the Royal Air Force initially as a general practitioner and later as an obstetrician.
Mr Shaxted has worked abroad in Australia, Cyprus and in the Middle East. She was the first overseas doctor to visit Kuwait on an educational basis after Desert Storm, and until recently has been a regular visitor to that country running training courses at various private, ministry and oil company hospitals.
Mr Shaxted holds the position of Visiting Professor at Cranfield University and is a trustee of the charity Baby Lifeline.
His principle interests are in short stay endoscopic surgery, medico-legal issues in obstetrics and gynaecology and medical management.
Mr Shaxted has been doing medico-legal work since 1984. Most of this work involves giving opinions for both claimant and defendant in medical negligence claims in both the UK and abroad. He has wide experience of report writing and has given evidence in court on over 30 occasions. He has also been instructed in personal injury, family and criminal cases.
Mr Shaxted has been married for 41 years and has two sons. The eldest lives and works in Grand Cayman, the youngest is a ski professional in Canada.
