Robin Finlay currently holds a post as honorary consultant ophthalmologist to the Royal United Hospital, Bath.
He qualified from Oxford University and King's College Hospital, London, and trained in ophthalmology / ophthalmic surgery in Edinburgh and Oxford before taking up a consultant post in Bath.
He has been the senior examiner for the diploma/membership examinations of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. Publications include joint authorship of 3 editions of The Eye in General Practice, and various papers in scientific journals.
He currently works part time for the Royal United Hospital, Bath and undertakes regular locum work in neighbouring NHS hospital trusts. He has a particular interest in improving the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma in sub-Saharan Africa, supplying appropriate diagnostic equipment and training local medical staff in its use. He has travelled widely in this capacity, and spoken at several international conferences, including the COECSA Annual Conference in Zambia in 2014.
He has wide experience in medico-legal report writing, including personal injury, clinical negligence, criminal and other related fields.
He is a fellow of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of England and Edinburgh, and of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. He is also a member of the Expert Witness Institute.
