Exploring the Evolving Landscape of Surgical Consent: A Seminar with Barry Paraskeva.

This week, TMLEP had the pleasure of welcoming Mr. Barry Paraskeva, Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon, who delivered a thought-provoking seminar on the evolving legal and clinical implications of surgical consenting practice.

With a wealth of clinical expertise and medico-legal insight, Barry guided our teams through the complexities surrounding informed consent, an area of increasing scrutiny within medical negligence law. Drawing on real-world case examples and decades of experience, Barry offered invaluable perspectives on how the principles of informed consent have developed, particularly in light of the landmark Montgomery v Lanarkshire Health Board judgment.

The seminar fostered meaningful discussion around how clinicians and medico-legal professionals alike must adapt to the growing expectations placed on consent processes. Barry also highlighted the interplay between clinical realities and legal standards, offering our teams a deeper appreciation of the challenges faced by practitioners in ensuring patients are appropriately informed.

This session was an excellent opportunity for our team to stay at the forefront of clinical risk and legal precedent. At TMLEP, we are committed to continuous learning, and we actively engage with leading experts across medicine and law to ensure we maintain the highest standards of clinical analysis and support for our clients.

We extend our sincere thanks to Barry for his time, insight, and commitment to advancing understanding in this critical area.
